Live video

The drone camera feed can be watched on the drone card on the operations map - by the whole team, not only on the controller screen. The application does not store recordings and does not play back past streams.

Requirements

  • Video is enabled for the organisation - it is part of the licence, switched on by the service provider together with the limit on drones streaming at the same time.
  • The FLAARE page is open on the controller (the same page that carries telemetry) and the drone is powered on. Otherwise the card shows “The controller has not reported its cameras yet”.
  • There is a free slot in the limit of drones streaming at the same time, and the organisation’s licence is valid.

Starting and stopping

A stream is started by the operator or a Superpilot; a pilot can watch the video but cannot start it. The drone card opens with a click on the marker or on the drone’s name in the list - also when the drone is on the ground without a GPS fix yet.

The card header has two buttons:

  • camera - starts the stream and expands the preview on the card,
  • broadcast - starts the stream without a preview, e.g. when the video is needed by the KOL coordinator or on a second screen.

A streaming drone has a red LIVE badge on its card, in the drone list and in the KOL operator panel. Stopping the stream sits under “More” - deliberately away from the button that merely hides the thumbnail.

Right after starting, the card shows “Waiting for video from the drone…” - the drone needs a few seconds to begin streaming. If the drone is streaming but the server receives no video, the card shows a warning: the controller’s mobile connection is usually to blame.

The picture

  • The stream shows whatever the pilot has on the controller screen: thermal, normal or split screen. The pilot switches lenses on the controller; the application cannot pick a camera or control the gimbal.
  • Quality (under “More”): Smooth (default) or SD. The change applies immediately, also during a stream.
  • Full screen: the button on the thumbnail stretches the video over the whole map, a telemetry bar runs below the picture, and the button or the Esc key exits. On a phone, full screen opens in landscape.

Thermal readings and rangefinder

When the thermal camera reports a measurement, the MAX / AVG / MIN temperatures from the measurement area or spot set by the pilot show below the picture. The overlay with the measurement frame and temperature crosshairs is off by default - it is switched on in the full-screen bar, which also has a delay slider so the frame lands on the picture, which arrives a few seconds after the telemetry. The overlay is drawn only for the thermal lens.

With the rangefinder on, the full-screen bar shows the distance to the target, and the operations map shows a dashed line from the drone to the measured point.

Automatic stop

A stream ends by itself:

  • after 60 seconds without telemetry from the drone,
  • after 4 hours of continuous streaming,
  • when no video arrives within 30 seconds of starting,
  • when a KOL session that saw this drone ends.

After connectivity returns, the stream does not resume on its own - the operator starts it again.
