KOL operations

The KOL module (Air Operations Coordinator) is used to coordinate shared airspace when several organisations are working the same incident.

A coordinator with an active KOL session:

  • sees the drones of all organisations within 10 km of their position,
  • has the aircraft grouped by operator,
  • can draw operating areas for individual operators - they land straight on their maps.

The KOL view is deliberately reduced: a drone’s position, heading and trail - no battery, speed or flight mode. Operational details stay inside each organisation. Element cards on the KOL map are read-only. The coordinator sees the points and areas of the active incident of every organisation in range - see “Incidents”.

The KOL session

A session is started for the duration of the incident. The coordinator’s position comes from the browser’s geolocation - it requires consent. A session runs for 12 hours; an option to extend it by another 12 hours appears towards the end of the session and can be used for as long as the operation continues. Instead of the full 10 km radius, the coordinator can draw their own, narrower operating area and later adjust it with the “Edit operating area” button without drawing it again. “Refresh location” moves the centre of the radius and clears the drawn area.

Video in KOL

When a drone visible in the session is streaming video, the coordinator sees it on the drone card - with no controls, because it is not their drone. The condition: the coordinator’s organisation has video enabled. A streaming drone has a LIVE badge in the operator panel. Ending the KOL session stops the streams of the drones the session saw - the operator starts them again if they are still needed. Details: “Live video”.

Who sees whom

A KOL session can be started by an account with operator permissions in an organisation that has the coordinator feature enabled. A drone is visible to the KOL only when both conditions hold: the organisation has enabled sharing and the drone has the “Visible to KOL” option ticked on its card.
