Seven drones over one lake. A report from the “Codename LAKE 2026” exercise
Several services, one area, one screen. During the exercise on Lake Międzybrodzkie every flight was run in FLAARE, and the coordinator saw every aircraft in real time.
On 5 September 2026 the rescue exercise “Codename LAKE 2026” (Polish: „Kryptonim JEZIORO 2026”) took place on Lake Międzybrodzkie in southern Poland, organised by the Bielsko emergency medical service (Bielskie Pogotowie Ratunkowe). Teams with different specialisations trained together: water rescue, search with dogs, medical rescue, rope rescue and unmanned aerial operations.
Seven drones in the air at the same time
Drones served as a reconnaissance tool and as support for the people directing the operation. At the peak there were seven aircraft from different teams in the air over the same area.
Every flight was run in FLAARE. The Aerial Operations Coordinator saw every aircraft in real time on a single map: who is flying, where and at what altitude. No radio calls and no asking “where are you”.
What it shows
This is what working with drones looks like when nobody has to keep an eye on each one separately. Pilots focus on their task, and the coordinator on the operation as a whole. A shared picture of the airspace replaces arrangements over radio and phone.
The greatest value of the exercise was the chance for teams from different services to work together in one scenario. Our thanks to the organisers and all participants.
